We will walk you through all the steps of preparing and cutting your knicker pattern from the fabric of your choice. (We love to make these from leftover fabric from clothes we have made before so we can match our outfits)!!
Once you are cut out we will show you how to sew the knickers together and add elastic to the waist and leg holes to complete the garment. We can also cover adding a soft waistband to create added comfort and eliminate the need for elastic.
This is a beginner-friendly project, no previous dressmaking experience is required, but you will need to know how to operate a sewing machine.
You will need 2.5 metres of fold over elastic (measuring at least 2cm wide or wider) in a colour to match or stand out from your chosen fabric. Alternatively, regular knicker elastic or picot edge elastic can be used but you will see raw edges on the inside of your knickers. 1/2 metre of stretch jersey fabric with a minimum of 20% stretch. It needs to have a good bounce back when you stretch it and not struggle to pull out or lose it’s pattern/turn white when you stretch to ensure your bottom will fit in nicely (Not saying you have a big bottom) 😉
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, you will have your own area to cut and sew in with access to your own tools, equipment and materials. Positioned a minimum of 2 metres away from other pupils. We ask you to bring a face covering to wear during demonstrations where social distancing at 2 metres may prove hard to achieve.
