Patchwork & quilting next steps – Christmas table runner and placemats

£135.00

Join Elaine and learn how to make a tree block using the “Stack & Slash” method; both the dark trees on a light background, and light trees on a dark background, are created at the same time.

Once the blocks are made you can assemble them in a few different configurations: two long runners, a runner and 4 placemats or a larger wall hanging, the choice is yours. Once your blocks are created, we will assemble the pieces and quilt them, using two different quilting methods, then finish off with binding, done entirely on the sewing machine.

Description

This is a 2 week course spread across 2 full days.  All equipment is provided but pupils will need the following materials:

Christmas Tree Runner Material requirements – Makes 2 runners OR 1 runner + 4 placemats OR 1 wall hanging 4 fat quarters DARK quilting cotton 4 fat quarters LIGHT quilting cotton 1/3 m DARK quilting cotton – for binding (can be the same as one of the fat quarters, or coordinating) 1/3 m LIGHT quilting cotton – for binding (can be the same as one of the fat quarters, or coordinating) 3/4 m PLAIN quilting cotton (or coordinating) – for backing * The dark and light fabrics need to have high contrast. * 3/4 m Wadding Threads for piecing and quilting (I have used a medium grey thread for piecing, white thread for quilting on the lights, and dark green thread).

(Please note the correct wadding for this project is linked above and available in our shop.  You can purchase it along with your course and it will be waiting for you for collection on the day.  We also sell a range of festive cotton and will be stocking more closer to the event.  We appreciate you may wish to purchase your fabrics elsewhere but your support of our store is appreciated).

When choosing your fabrics, please make sure that there is really good contrast between your light and dark fabrics – the more contrast between light and dark, the better the effect and the look of the finished product. Also, remember that you can use any colours you like, they certainly don’t have to be “traditional colours” at all.
