We will make changes to the original pattern instructions to give the item a lovely professional looking finish, so you will also learn how to calculate neckbands and armbands during this class.
You will need to purchase the *Kielo Wrap dress pattern. We advise you to purchase this in printed form from the link or as a digital download from the Named Patterns website. If you purchase the download, please send the A0 copy file to a service such as Netprinter to get it printed in full size. Do not try to stick together an A4 PDF copy as it is not an easy task and often won’t stick together properly (we’ve tried it).
As this is an online class and Claire is unable to get hands-on with you as easily, we do not advise you taking this class if you have not sewn with jersey before. You will need to cut out your garment ahead of class. If you want to make this dress and a are a newbie jersey sewer then please take our Intro to stretch online course beforehand
All pupils will need 3 metres of jersey fabric. *A cotton jersey is recommended if you are new to sewing with jersey. If you are a little more experienced lightweight cotton or viscose jersey can give you a slinkier look.
You will not need the interfacing or stretch elastic mentioned in the pattern.
*links marked with a star are affiliate links. The items will not cost you any more to purchase from but will earn Beautiful Things a small commission.
You will be sent a link to access the ZOOM class before the session, please make sure you have zoom loaded onto a laptop or iPad that you can stand up close to you when you sew and see clearly.
You will need to have cut out the front panel (cut on the fold), back panels and ties in advance. Set up your sewing machine with a matching thread and inserted a stretch needle. You will also need your iron to hand.
It is possible to shorten the kielo dress but it is easier to do once it’s sewn together as it has an unusual curve to the bottom edge which allows it to wrap. We can do this together if you wish and the remaining fabric can be used to make some matching knickers at a later date 😉
The class has been scheduled for 5 hours, but we will take regular breaks. It may not take as long but it is very hard to tell how long to set aside with 6 pupils all in their own homes, so set aside the day and buckle up for a fun ride!
