The course will be run over two mornings a month apart to give you time to complete the hooking and hemming of your tree. The first session you will learn how to hook your fabric into the hessian and make a start. A month later bring your hooked and hemmed tree back to fit lights and sew up the seam and prepare your star.
The cost of the course will include a rug-making hook and hoop (like an embroidery hoop but a bit more robust) which you can keep (value £50). Your lights will also be included (value £5)
Hessian for your first tree will also be provided and instructions for how to prepare your own for future projects.
A small amount of fabric will be provided but pupils will need to bring along additional supplies. You can use up stashes: yarn, old t-shirts or sweatshirts, ribbons, fleece blankets or tops – anything you have kept thinking it will come in useful one day!
Also have a search in charity shops. Any fabric that will not fall apart when cut into half or quarter-inch strips will fit the bill.
Yarns should ideally be chunky or thicker but you can use thinner yarns doubled up or even quadrupled.
Your materials can be of any colour – there is no rule that says that a Christmas tree must be green!
