FREE online craft classes for kids during the school closure

Hi,  I’m Claire Mackaness, owner of Craft Classes @ Beautiful Things.

I would like to invite you to join me for some craft classes with your children.

These classes came about as a way of home educating my own children during the current school closure caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

All parents are having to join forces to try and offer their children a varied schedule of work that allows them to continue to be educated whilst trying to maintain jobs and family life.

It’s going to be tough and we need to give ourselves a break.  The majority of us are not qualified teachers and as such we can come together and draw from resources such as these sessions to build our own homeschooling timetables.

I have been teaching adults various crafts from my studio in Brentwood for just over 7 years and have been making and creating for many years before that.

I have a varied skillset and as such, I have put together some really simple activities that your children may enjoy taking part in.

Each Monday (During term time) I will be hosting a Livestream at 10 am direct from my Facebook business page.  Simply like the page and then be ready to take part each week.

I have listed each session as an event on my business page with full details of what we will be making so that you can prepare your materials.  Pop over and tick the going or interested box and share with your friends.

I will list the events down below so you can be sure you don’t miss one.

Each live stream will remain on my page so that it can be viewed after the session and I will pop back to this page and post a link so that you can come back and find it.  Resources for each class will also be available as a link from this page.

Whats on:

Let’s Learn About the Romans Monday 23rd March – Learn about Roman brooches and learn to make various designs and styles

Let’s get crafty with grass Monday 30th March – We will be making grass heads and growing a tray of own grass to nurture over the Easter break

Easter Hols (2 weeks off)

Basket weaving Monday 20th April – Baskets are steeped in history, we are going to learn how to weave our own

Make a mini garden  Monday 27th April – You’ve looked after that grass for 3 weeks, now it’s time to add your own fun to it and create a jungle or a fairy garden.

To find out what you need for each of these classes simply click each link and view the description on each event

If you’ve enjoyed one of my classes what can you do to help?

The sole purpose of these classes was always to educate my own children and spread the word that Beautiful Things exists as a business.  So first and foremost, if you’ve enjoyed one of my classes I would love you to tell people about it.  Invite your friends and family to one of my sessions and share on your social media.

Be sure you follow Beautiful Things on Instagram and also on YouTube where I regularly post FREE content for both adults and children.

(Beautiful Things is @beautifulthingshq on Instagram and I am @artyfartymack)

If you’d like to do more.

Obviously times are uncertain for all small businesses and, as I am currently unable to offer face to face classes in my studio, my income stream has been hugely reduced.

If you would like to say thank you for the content you have enjoyed via any of my social media platforms then I would be grateful for a donation, no matter how small.  All donations will be put straight back into the business allowing us to continue to provide high-quality free content for all.

There is a big pink button at the bottom of this page.  Please feel free to hit it and make a donation of any amount you wish.  I will not be offended by even the coppers in the bottom of your purse.  ‘Literally every penny helps’. Thank you so much.

Today we are delighted to be introducing a new cha Today we are delighted to be introducing a new challenge to you that is free to join in with. We hope it will encourage you to try something new.

The 'Sew out of your comfort zone challenge' is designed to encourage you to create something that you wouldn't normally try, or to venture into a new sewing territory.

Maybe there is a pattern you think just wont suit you, but you've seen lots of other people making it and are tempted to give it a try. Maybe there is a new technique you've always wanted to have a go at but have been to scared to try. You might have been sewing for years but have never tried a particular fabric or method before.

Sandra has always avoided the Tilly & The Buttons Indigo dress as it has soooo much gathering and she thought it would not be all that flattering. But she's seen me wearing my many versions and has now decided to give it a go.

I have made lots of jumpsuits but have never worked with Scuba before or a Deer and Doe pattern so I'm giving it a go for the first time.

Join us during Februrary and pick something that pushes you out of your comfort zone. Be sure to post your progress on social media using the hashtag #sewoutofmycomfortzone and we can all hold your hand in the process.

Hi it’s Sandra. I’ve finished my first project Hi it’s Sandra. I’ve finished my first project on my #makenine2023 list. It’s the Atlas Bag by Swoon patterns. It looks so pretty but I don’t like it! I used a vinyl that I realised I didn’t have enough of, so lined the straps in cotton, but don’t like that they are then facing upwards with the lining.
The straps are also ridiculously long. The bag is much too wide for my shoulders so isn’t comfortable to wear. Never mind, good reason to try another pattern!
